Revitalization of the yellow water lily (Nuohar luteum) habitat in Lake Ohrid area
The project is designed to revitalize the habitat of the Yellow water lily (one of the endangered species of Lake Ohrid), by replanting it and by promoting within the local population its value.
Yellow water lily is one of the endangered species of Lake Ohrid which disappeared from many localities in Lake Ohrid and is limited in one part (in the north-west coastline of the Lake) which is under big anthropogenic impact as well. Reduction of the yellow water lily surfaces is a result of intensified drying the lake with intention of increasing the private land. The project aim is to (1) replant in the area of Mazija in the north-east part of the Lake near town of Ohrid where it was abundantly present until late sixties and to (2) increase the public awareness (the local inhabitants of the village of Kalista) on importance of protecting the plant specie yellow water lily by: organizing of public tribunes and publishing of printed materials (postcards, leaflets).
