Soil erosion control and environmental protection in Chinhamapere and IV Congresso in Manica Province
Soil erosion control and environmental protection in Chinhamapere and IV Congresso in Manica Province
Manica village in the Chimanimani mountain range is a very rich in biodiversity, and important in the focal area of international waters due to abundance of waters springs, and rich hydrographic network. This scenario is being threaten by the own topography of Manica which makes strong currents of its rivers flow to negatively impact in the environment, especially in the rainy season, and also by the establishment of new settlements without adequate planning which is contributing to land degradation because of the increased pressure on land, water, and forest resources. Forest clearing, run off (soils, stones, and trees), soil erosion, deforestation and bushfires, farming in mountain slopes and inadequate production of soil bricks, and ditches open by rains are some of the problems faced in the area.

This project will be executed to mitigate these environmental problems and socio-economic difficulties and improve livelihoods through establishment of a tree nursery, reforestation, building of barriers to control erosion, landfilling of ditches open by rains, and building of dykes in certain rivers to control its flow. It will also raise awareness to promote sound management practices, and improve livelihoods of the targeted community groups in benefit of present and future generations.
