The women living in Bereugang Barracks wish to have productive activities while waiting for the construction of their houses. IBU 4 ACEH works with 170 households of Keude Aron village in Bereugang Barracks. A year after the tsunami, this community wishes to come back to normality soon. The slow transition has transferred them from slummy tent villages to semi-permanent wooden barracks.

The South-South Grants Facility supports the establishment of community-owned sewing workshop for women, through procurement of 5 sewing machines, 1 embroidery machine, 1 periphery machine, 1 steam iron, electric equipment such as adaptor and stabilizer, and 1 generator.

While waiting for the USD 5,000 grant from SSGF, Ibu 4 Aceh has been offered by other donors with similar assistance as agreed under the working contract with SSGF. Adjustment of project activities was essential to maximize SSGF funding assistance due to late disbursement and the weakening rate of dollars to rupiahs.

The USD 5,000 grant from SSGF was expected to trigger the livelihood of women in Beureugang. The training activities will be conducted in barracks where they live. All equipment purchased under this grant will be owned communally by the community. Ibu 4 Aceh will provide management and marketing training.
