Kavuko Hills Rehabilitation Project
The project is one out of ten projects in the Kilome Division Land Degradation Cluster in Makueni district in the Eastern Province of Kenya. The Kilome division land degradation cluster projects lie within about 40 square kilometres. All ten projects aim at reducing / preventing land degradation by focusing on the rehabilitation of gullies, water tanks for domestic and agricultural use, establishment of terraces and intercropping methods and reafforestation of catchment areas. The ten CBOs implementing the respective projects are supervised and coordinated by Kenya Initiatives for Development (KID) which has the role of a lead NGO.

This project plans to carry out the following activities:


? Purchase working tools of high quality- Oct. 1st -10th 2006.
? Dig 2 cut-off trenches measuring 1.5m wide x 1m deep, 1.5km long at Kavuko hills- Oct. 25 - January 2007


? Plant 50 trees in each member?s farms March 2007.
? Plant 75,000 trees and 5,000 sisal at Kavuko hills April-July 2007.

? Plant 75,000 trees and 5,000 sisal at Kavuko hills Sept.-January 2008.

? Write and submit final project report to UNDP-GEF/SGP between February and March 2008
