Palm Trees Nursery
The proponent established a palm plantation run by the community in an area where a rare ecosystem prevails (northern Jordan Valley shared by Jordan, Palestine and Syria). The NGO also carried out outreach activities. The project was duplicated on a bigger scale with FAO funding in other areas in the Jordan Valley. The project was implemented by a community development council represernting local community directly with support and supervision from the Noor Al Hussein Foundation. The NGO acquired good experience in the field of palm plantation, organizing community work and liaising with other national institutions working in similar fields, thus contributing to the community development efforts in the project's under-previliged area.
The project provided job opportunities for local community members. The NGO used the land for planting other products between palm trees such as vegetables that local community members could benefit from. The local community exposure to the activities of the Samll Grants Programme helped in drawing their attention to the links between local and global environmental concerns.
