Tree seedling production Project
The project is one out of ten projects in the Kilome Division Land Degradation Cluster in Makueni district in the Eastern Province of Kenya. The Kilome division land degradation cluster projects lie within about 40 square kilometres. All ten projects aim at reducing / preventing land degradation by focusing on the rehabilitation of gullies, water tanks for domestic and agricultural use, establishment of terraces and intercropping methods and reafforestation of catchment areas. The ten CBOs implementing the respective projects are supervised and coordinated by Kenya Initiatives for Development (KID) which has the role of a lead NGO.

This project plans to carry out the following activities:


? Purchase working tools of high quality - Oct. 1st -10th 2006.
? Desilt Kyule dam reservoir area - Oct. 26th - 31st 2006.
? Construct Kyule dam incomplete embankment about 30m using murram - Nov. 1st -15th 2006.
? Construct manholes (Inlet, outlet, inspection chamber) - Nov. 15th - 30th
? Fence Kyule dam in December 2006
? Plant 100,000 tree seedlings - Oct. 2007- January 2007.


? Construct a masonry 20,000 litres tank (3m diameter, 3m height) - March 2007.
? Construct water kiosk - Apr. 1st - 20th 2007.
? Construct 2 cattle troughs at Kyule dam - Apr. 21-30th 2007.
? Plant 400,000 tree seedlings - March - July 2007.


? Plant 400,000 tree seedlings - Sept.2007-Jan 2008.
? Plant 50 trees in each member?s farm in November 2007(CBO?s contribution).


? Write and submit final project report to UNDP-GEF/SGP - January -March 2008.
