Promoting Energy Efficiency and Investment in Renewable Energy Technology as a Pathway to the Development of Sustainable Schools and Communities.
Promoting Energy Efficiency and Investment in Renewable Energy Technology as a Pathway to the Development of Sustainable Schools and Communities.
The main goal of this project is to invest in renewable energy technology through the installation of off-grid photovoltaics on the school campus. It is intended for this to be the first step towards creating a low-carbon, energy-efficient campus. While the initial up-front cost is the installation is high, it is anticipated to bring immediate financial savings with a return on investment within two years. In order to generate broad support for the project by all stakeholders within the school community the project will also include components to increase awareness of the causes of climate change, its potential impacts on individuals, the community and the Bahamas. The project will encourage all stakeholders to take action on a personal and/or institutional level to reduce their contribution to the potential impacts of climate change. Project objectives include:

? Promoting investment in renewable technology through the installation of off-grid PV technology on the school campus.
? Mainstreaming the concepts of climate change in the school community through school-based education and awareness activities to foster the development of climate change mitigation behaviours.
? Promote energy efficiency on campus through the development and approval of a student-driven energy conservation policy which includes retrofitting the campus with LED lighting where feasible.
