Beausejour Park Lighting Project
Beausejour Park Lighting Project
The environmental issue to be address is the use of fossil fuels and its contribution to climate change. Most field that are currently lit are on the grid and consume high amounts of electricity. With the growing demand for more fields around the country to be lighted, solar and other alternative forms of energy should be considered. Apart from being costly, the source of energy for such lighting is the burning of fossil fuels which releases a significant among of carbon dioxide, a green-house gas, that causes global warming. The project will therefore seek to install and utilize a solar powered lighting system at the Beausejour playing field in St. George?s. This facility would allow young people for the surrounding communities to engage in sporting activities such as football, athletics and cricket in the night therefore increasing the time available for practice and play. The project will also help to increase awareness and education on climate change issues and the use of alternative sources of energy. Young person in the community would be trained in the installation and maintenance of the solar lighting system.

The goal of the project is to promote the use of solar energy in Grenada by the lighting of Beausejour playing field using solar panels as the source of energy while encouraging the development of recreational activities at nights and reducing the operational costs of the organization.

The objectives are
To install solar panels for the lighting of the playing field

To install LED lights around the playing field

Train young people in the community how to install and maintain the solar lighting system

To increase awareness of climate change in the surrounding community of North West St. George?s

To educate persons in the community on the application and use of solar energy and other alternative sources of energy
