The project titled "Ecological Restoration through Ecosystem-Based Adaptation of the Botanic Reserve at Fourah Bay College" represents a significant step toward biodiversity conservation and climate resilience in Sierra Leone. Supported by the Small Grants Programme, this transformative initiative was implemented by the Department of Biological Sciences at Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone. Focusing on the restoration of the Botanic Reserve, the project applied ecosystem-based adaptation approaches to rehabilitate degraded landscapes, conserve native biodiversity, and strengthen the ecological integrity of the reserve. Beyond its environmental goals, the initiative delivered far reaching educational and socio-economic benefits. It served as a living laboratory for students and researchers, fostered community engagement in conservation efforts, and created opportunities for sustainable livelihoods through ecological stewardship. The project’s success demonstrates the critical role of academic institutions in advancing nature-based solutions to climate change and underscores the importance of integrated approaches to ecological restoration.
