ENGLISH: PRESENTAITON OF NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS OF SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME IN ARGENTINA

On 18 April 2006, a delegation of representatives of the UN system headed by the UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Carlos Felipe Martinez, the Programme Coordinator, Mr. Pablo Vinocur, the Environment and Sustainable Development Coordinator, Mr. Daniel Tomasini, the SGP National Coordinator, Mr. Hugo Iza and staff members from other the UN offices in Argentina (FAO, UNICEF, ONUSIDA and OIT) met with Mr. Jose Alperovich, Governor, Province of Tucuman and members of the provincial Cabinet, to formally inaugurate the SGP office in Argentina.

In a private meeting with the Governor and Cabinet Ministers, the strategy of the MDGs were presented by the Province and analyzed by the UN specialists and those responsible in the governmental area. In front of more than 80 participants that gathered in the White Hall of the Government's House, the 2005 Human Development Report and SGP Argentina were presented to representatives of indigenous communities from Salta, Jujuy and Tucuman as well as to authorities and universities faculties, graduate schools, and associations and chambers' representatives.

In his initial presentation before the Governor, Resident Representative Mr. Carlos Felipe Martinez expressed that there were three reasons that motivated the UNDP presence in the North-Western part of Argentina: support the Government of Tucuman Province in achieving the MDGs, present the 2005 Human Development Report in the North-Western part of Argentina and formally establish the SGP in Argentina.

After lunch in the Government's House, those attending gathered in the office of SGP. This locale, fully equipped, was presented by the Government of Tucuman within the framework of an agreement between the UNDP Argentina and the provincial government. This locale has two offices, a meeting room, kitchen and other amenities. This locale will allow SGP to have an adequate environment, hold meetings and ease the NSC's work as well as welcome communities' representatives.

SPANISH: PRESENTACIÓN SEDE NACIONAL DEL PROGRAMA DE PEQUEÑAS DONACIONES EN ARGENTINA

El 18 de abril, una Misión encabezada por el Representante Residente del PNUD Argentina, Sr. Carlos Felipe Martínez, del Coordinador de Programas, Sr. Pablo Vinocur, del Coordinador del Área Ambiente y Desarrollo Sustentable, Sr. Daniel Tomasini, del Coordinador Nacional del PPD Argentina, Hugo Iza y funcionarios del Sistema de Naciones Unidas en Argentina (FAO, UNICEF, ONUSIDA, OIT) se reunió con el Gobernador de la Provincia de Tucumán, Sr. José Alperovich y miembros del Gabinete provincial para dejar formalmente inaugurada la Sede Nacional del PPD Argentina.

En una reunión privada con el Gobernador y Ministros del Gabinete, la provincia presentó a la Misión las metas del ODM, que luego fueron analizadas entre los especialistas de la Misión y los responsables del área gubernamental. En el Salón Blanco de la Casa de Gobierno, ante la presencia de más de 80 asistentes entre los que se encontraban representantes de comunidades campesinas y pueblos indígenas de Salta, Jujuy y Tucumán, autoridades y docentes universitarios, Colegios de Graduados, representantes de Asociaciones y Cámaras, se presentó el Informe de Desarrollo Humano 2005 y el PPD Argentina.

En su presentación inicial ante el Gobernador, el Sr. Carlos Felipe Martínez expresó que tres fueron las razones que motivaron la presencia en la región NOA de los integrantes del Sistema de Naciones Unidas en Argentina: apoyar al Gobierno de la Provincia de Tucumán en la formulación de las Metas de los ODM, presentar el IDH 2005 en el Noroeste de Argentina y dejar formalmente establecida la Sede Nacional del PPD Argentina.

Con posterioridad al almuerzo, servido en la Casa de Gobierno, la Misión se constituyo en la Oficina Nacional del PPD Argentina, ubicada en la calle Entre Ríos 337 de la ciudad de San Miguel de Tucumán. Esta fue cedida por el Gobierno de la Provincia de Tucumán, con el correspondiente equipamiento de mobiliario, en el marco de un Convenio PNUD Argentina y el gobierno provincial. La sede consta de dos oficinas, una sala de reuniones, cocina y otras comodidades, lo que permitirá el adecuado funcionamiento del PPD, realizar las reuniones y facilitar el trabajo del CDN y recibir a los representantes de organizaciones comunitarias y brindarles un espacio apropiado para aquellas que lo requieran.
