This year on International Day of Rural Women (15 October), we are celebrating the vital role that rural women play in climate action with a spotlight on “Rural women and girls building resilience". In southeastern Mexico, climate change is a stark reality: more frequent floods and droughts, early or late hurricanes, and new plagues are clear signs that something is happening. But there is hope- from climate smart agroecology to livlihood diversification, rural women in Mexico are building community resilience and playing leading roles in the fight against climate change.
