Control of Land Degradation and Loss of Natural Resources Through Sustainable Use
Diloma Mmogo Interim Nature Conservation Trust members, who are largely youth, aim to raise awareness and appreciation on environmental management. Diloma Mmogo Interim Nature Conservation Trust, which comprises of the villages of Dikhukhung, Lepurung, Mmakgori, Mabole, Sekhutlane and Tshedilamolomo have realised there are issues of environmental concern that need to be addressed. The area is gradually being degraded due to indiscriminate harvesting of veld products for medicinal purposes and firewood; over harvesting of certain grass species and poaching. The active involvement of young people in environmental and natural resources management is of paramount importance as they are the future leaders of Botswana. Through a workshop the young people will discuss and build consensus on projects to undertake to ensure sustainable environmental management. In addition, this will make sure that all stakeholders are involved in the process of prioritizing of ideas. Moreover, the workshop will provide an opportunity for Government extension agents to make presentations on environmental issues of concern in the area and opportunities for projects that can improve livelihoods of people.
