Educate, Inform and Sensitise the Public on Environmental Management and Degradation Caused by Livestock
Ngwao Motheo Theatre Group intends to effectively use performing arts/theatre in community mobilization and creative initiation of serious action against environmental degradation in the Kgatleng district. Botswana is faced by a serious problem of environmental conservation. We depend on our environment for our economy to grow, more specifically and appropriately, we need environment the environment for farming, wildlife and economical purposes. The combination of the three has proved to be a serious problem to laymen, as they cannot combine the three in a sustainable manner of environmental usage. Our country is drifting into a serious problem of environmental degradation as a result of lack of knowledge/information on environmental conservation and livestock management. The project was initiated after realisation of mishandling of the environment and poor livestock management, which normally result in poor environmental conditions. The topsoil is moved away by cattle and water, which makes it difficult for the vegetation to grow. The perennial grasses that normally emerge during rainy seasons are usually not enough or given enough time to grow, therefore forcing cattle to move around looking for grazing pastures since the system used for grazing in the Kgatleng district area is the free range system.
