1. About NGO-Project Summary

Radio Musi-O-Tunya is a product of the Catholic Diocese of Livingstone, following Government policy to liberalize the Radio and Television broadcasting. The radio station begun transmission with a full broadcasting license on 22nd October 2004, it operates for 18hours daily at 06:00hours to 00:00hours.The station?s focus is the interplay of issues concerning the community, its history, social, economic, political and culture activities. The station is community in nature and is inspired by gospel values and deeply rooted in sustaining the environment. The radio station has a coverage radius of 100 kilometers covering most parts of Kazungula, Kalomo, Sesheke and also broadcasts to the entire Livingstone community including Mukuni and Songwe Villages.

Radio Musi-O-Tunya is a nongovernmental organizational (NGO). It is a community radio station set up by the Catholic Diocese of Livingstone to serve the communities in the surrounding area.
Core activities
The main focus of the radio station is to Evangelize, Entertain and Educate the audience through programmes that promote community development. Besides that, the radio stations gives out information on Health, Environment and empower children, youth and women in knowing their rights and being a voice to the voiceless.
Organizational Approach
The radio station intends to implement the ?Our Environment? project through the production of environment awareness programs and listener group discussions that have proved to be ideal channels for most programs such as Health and Good Governance.





2. Project main Objectives

2.1 The primary objective is to educate and empower the people of Livingstone and the surrounding area on caring for the environment and find ways to manage and mitigate the issue of climate change in partnership with policy makers.

3. Specific objectives

3.1 To sensitize communities on climate change and its probable impacts.
3.2 To build community participation to address climate change as a public problem.
3.3 To provide a platform for local communities, government, Civil society and the private sector to share ideas to support sustainable management of natural resources at household level.
3.4 To encourage communities to take action in the management of the environment and reduce greenhouse emissions.

4. Key project outcomes

4.1 People will be educated and empowered to manage the climate change at both community and national level.
4.2 Communities start appreciating that continuing and increased use of renewable energy sources is a key strategy to limit the extent of future climate change.
4.3 A realization that community involvement in natural resources management is based on the premise that local communities that derive direct benefit from managing natural resources will protect those resources.
4.4 We believe that improved conservation planning, resource management, and livelihood approaches can reduce the harmful impacts of climate change and develop positive ones.
4.5 Policy makers will be compelled to create policies that are relevant and in context with issues of climate change in the local community and the nation at large.
