Promotion and Upgrade of Ecotourism Products of the Western Area Peninsula Forest Reserve in Sierra Leone
The project will strengthen the participation of communities around the Western Area Peninsula National Park (WAP-NAP) in decision-making for climate change mitigation, sustainable forest management and the conservation of biodiversity and international waters. For this, the community-based ecotourism around the Western Area Peninsula National Park will be promoted and existing services will be upgraded.

The project will directly contribute to the SGP OP5 Objectives 1 ?Improve sustainability of protected areas and indigenous and community conservation areas through community-based actions?, 2 ?Mainstream biodiversity conservation and sustainable use into production landscapes, seascapes and sectors through community initiatives and actions? and 3 ?Support the conservation and enhancement of carbon stocks through sustainable management and climate proofing of land use change and forestry?; as well as Objectives 6 ?Maintain or improve flow of agro-ecosystem and forest ecosystem services to sustain livelihoods of local communities? and 7 ?Reduce pressures at community level from competing land uses (in the wider landscapes)?.

Capacity - Building Component
During the project, capacity development will make the main focus and all activities will be done by the community' members themselves. This will enhance replication and scaling up and out.
Policy Impact
Ecotourism and waste management plans will be developed and applied as community by-laws that expectedly, will inform national policies and strategies on tourism and conservation.
