Capacity building, shared learning and knowledge management plan as well as obvious and tangible improvements in livelihood will ensure sustainability after the first stage of seed funding and implementation of this project. In essence the successful development of Tidy Healthy Proud Community spaces and community members are the key elements to ensure sustainability of this project. Throughout the project all expertise and knowledge will be shared with a strong feedback and integrated communication in place thereby ensure inclusivity and ownership of the project by the two communities from the beginning. Classes / workshops and any form of training will have a registration step (to ensure those attending are in the right ?ability? category) and all such activities will have an element of results oriented learning. Attendees will receive certificates ONLY depending on their ability to affirm learning and knowledge gained from these events. School visits will take the same format ? a return visit or short test will be administered to ensure the visit served an educational as opposed to ?school?s out? purpose. This project, through the energy and motivation of the communities and the support and expertise of both community and external experts will: ? Develop clean, safe and proud public community spaces in which children and adults may interact ? Take care of hazardous/toxic substances contained in e-waste in a proper manner ? Recover valuable materials as effectively as possible ? Create economically and environmentally sustainable businesses ? Create employment and capacity build business skills to community women and youth

It is anticipated that quite a number of people will wish to become involved in this project - a team of youth and women with strong track records in project management, business and environmental projects have already been identified to deliver some of the key elements of the project and to manage it?s overall implementation across the two communities, however, we will also be recruiting members of the community for a number of key roles within the project. An overall steering committee with representatives from both communities and two management teams will also be developed to include members of each community. A mini environmental business plan competition will be introduced to each community and judging will be done by experts from both at home and abroad Local schools and community / church /mosque / evangelical groups will benefit from visiting speakers who will sensitise them about the project and its benefits.

Lack of access to finance, networks, technology and management skills are key barriers women face in setting up and growing new businesses. We are aware of a number of women?s groups in the Lumley and Murray town areas but will put a call for participation in the local newspapers and on posters around both areas to ensure we maximise access to our project by all women groups and individuals. Our work is based on a fair, transparent and equitable approach to all stakeholders including women and we will at a minimum: ? Ensure a positive policy commitment to gender and development, with steering committee inclusion and support ? Work with national and international gender experts as focal points with a catalytic role ? Raise skills and awareness for the public through gender training ? Incorporate gender objectives into planning and implementation procedures ? Identify clearly who has responsibility for implementation and a system of gender mainstreaming accountability

We will cooperate with two key Freetown communities to build new and innovative capabilities and learning and to facilitate the development of sustainable waste, e-waste management systems and biodiversity schemes. As knowledge plays a central role in capacity building we intend to connect local stakeholders with external stakeholders and experts to stimulate knowledge and know-how exchange on e-waste management.
