It is expected that with the provision of funds, the objectives of the project will be achieved. During the first year of implementation, donor fund will be used for all project activities. After the first year, revenue generated from the processing of cassava products (garri, flour, chips etc) will be used to enhance project continuation. Expected revenue from the sale of output is approximately USD 15,000 ? 20,000 annually. Profits generated from the sale of cassava product will be used to sustain the enterprise, expand the venture to other areas and salary for workers. More importantly, as this is a community venture, a special bank account will be establish solely to fund viable community initiatives that would be of immense benefit to the entire community. For instance, funds from the ?special? account will be used to provide amenities needed by the community such as build public toilets, rehabilitate community centres, clinics etc.

Knowledge management will be firmly rooted at every stage of the project implementation. It will be embedded in all project operations and also linked with objective and output. The team leader and monitoring and evaluations officer will try and harvest knowledge and information generated from project activities so as to ensure that better strategic decisions are taken. All staff and advisers will be encouraged to allocate some of their time to contribute to knowledge management activities. An online data base will be established in order to document good practices which can be adopted by other provinces and the sub-region in general.

The project aims at empowering women, and in particular women from socially and economically disadvantaged groups, as well as people living with disabilities, by offering them continuous employment and a guaranteed salary. Therefore, women will get first priority in the employment process. There will also be opportunities for the start-up of individually owned micro-enterprises. Primarily, women will be employed in the bread and pastries making enterprise. The income-generating potential offered by marketing the produce will empower women and girls who drop out of secondary schools to become economically independent. Girls dropping out of school due to pregnancy will be targeted because these groups usually suffer greatly from stigma and discrimination in the community, which impedes their ability to provide a living for themselves. Training will be provided to vulnerable women to acquire the knowledge in making various pastries from HQCF. The importance of economic empowerment will be paramount during the project implementation. As the individual is able to contribute to the household income, his/her self-esteem is regained and the decision-making powers are altered. Economic empowerment is hence a prerequisite for actual equality. Good working conditions, continuous training, and the adoption of scientific and professional ways of handling waste will minimise health risks and other occupational hazards that are common in the informal settings.

The project will be sustainable at various levels. At the provincial level, the project will compliment the plan to advance agricultural output and add value to raw materials. The project will also advance environmental sustainability by preventing deforestation through the reduction in the use of charcoal and fuelwood. The Garri and HQCF will be of utmost quality to ensure market acceptability. Further, the project includes public information and awareness raising activities. In order to promote replication of the project in other parts of the country and the sub-region in general, public outreach events will be intensified including radio discussions, newspaper articles, and an online database will be established to share results and best practices. The consideration of market, social land operational risks and their mitigation will ensure greater sustainability of the project.
