Development of SGP OP6 Country Programme Strategy for Sierra Leone

Multi-stakeholder consultations to achieve a broad consensus on the country programme approach in OP6. Selection of landscape/seascape area(s) of focus, with consideration given to SGP?s niche, opportunities, challenges, and potential for synergies. Baseline analysis to identify the landscape/seascape context and background, including threats to the global environment, sustainable development, and key actions and the development of a Country Programme Strategy for OP6.

Community Contribution in kind will ensure scaling up of initiatives

Gender Focus

Generally, women are in majority in the rural communities and the project will produce a strategic document that will allow greater participation by women in community driven projects.

Policy Impact

It will be a working document that will encourage indigenous people to initiate policy change through their local structure such as the village and town councils, to the district and constituency levels.

Policy Influence

Overall, the CPS will set the rules for projects that will be developed during OP6 and every project will contribute to a policy change in one way or the other.

Notable Community Participation

Stakeholder consultation and scooping exercises made provision of youth involvement through representation by their leaders. Also, as the project will be community-driven, the beneficiaries will generally be youths within the landscape of implementation.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

Stakeholders' consultations and scooping exercise which will invite members of the community to participate in selection of the lansscape/seascape, baseline assessment to generate the information from the people themselves and validation of the information.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

The CPS will be distributed to potential grantees and other organizations for co-financing.

Capacity - Building Component

The grantee is a Department at Njala University with adequate skills and knowledge in environmental dispensation. The planned validation and community engagement will ensure capacity building of enumerators and participants

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

This project is to develop the strategic plan and does not require socio-economic or livelihood activities. However, the Country Strategy lays the road map for implementer to undertake various activities gear towards socio-economic enhancement.

Replication of project activities

Up-scaling is a guarantee for the projects
