Preventing Climate Change for Sustainable Rural Livelihood and Development in the Moyamba and Western Rural Districts of Sierra Leone
The project seeks to work in an integrated way to strengthening communities knowledge on environmental protection in view of climate change, empowerment of women through livelihood development, strengthening and creating space for dialogue to enhance participation in environmental governance.
The project will introduce women and communities to Biochar energy with the use of ELSA Stove therein bringing out the energy, health, environmental and socio-economic benefits. Common feed stock like ground nut shell, palm kernel shell, wood pellet, elephant grass, rice straw, coconut shell and other agricultural residues will be used thereby preventing the cutting of trees for charcoal production.
The project will also endeavour to reinforce messages on disaster early warning signs in communities and employ participatory learning techniques for communities to adopt positive behaviour change towards sustainable land management.
