Sustainable management of community forest through appropriate climate smart agricultural practices, capacity development and climate change adaptation measures.

The organization is proposing to implement a pilot programme Sustainable management of community forest through appropriate climate smart agricultural practices, capacity development and climate change adaptation measures to be implemented by the different women groups under this umbrella body. The project will be implemented in Kumba Blahun, Kpetema, New London axis, Batiyama Layout and Gogoima, Bo District.
The project will help to strengthen the way and manner the communities are currently deforesting their forest all in the name of seeking livelihood to support their families, damages cause due to crude agricultural practices such as slash and burning will be well handle through capacity building and the introduction of new and appropriate farming techniques using the climate smart agriculture initiative.

Project Characteristics and Results

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Acres of the community land will be planted with improved varieties of Acacia, Baji, Yemani, Ketona and oil Palm. The oil palm and large plots of vegetables will generate income as an alternative livelihood for the communities.

Policy Impact

Notable Community Participation

The organization has over 85 to 90 percent women who are in their youthful age bracket. The project development phase included focus discussion with the various women groups to ensure active participation.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

The knowledge management strategy and plan objective are to ensure that the project support capacity of the target beneficiaries of 1000 individuals in order to increase and replicate to some of the indirect beneficiaries. The methodology will be purely based on demonstration and illustration to build confidence of the farmers to be able to take the technology somewhere else and replicate

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The project result will be communicated during the bi-monthly update and implementation review undertaken by the umbrella group on behalf of the entire affiliated entities. Success stories and lessons learnt will be compiled during the implementation the challenges and best practices. shared in briefing. An Exchange visit will be organized to build on the project successes and this will go a long way in strengthening the aspect of replicating and scaling up the concepts of the project even after funding.

Gender Focus

The women are mainly involved in vegetable gardening and inland valley swamp cultivation while the men cultivate upland for rice production. This project will bring awareness to ensure that men abandon upland farming and support their wives in vegetable production and IVS development.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

Training will be organized for the community members including any indigenous people and people with disabilities.

Capacity - Building Component

Training will be organized for the grantee on landscape methodologies, land conservation and climate smart technologies as a means of capacity building.
