Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Community youths participation at the planning and design stage of the project was ensured during the needs assessment. Focus group discussions and structured questionnaires were used across the Forest edge communities in Pujehun and Kenema Districts enhanced community inputs into the process. Initial meetings organized to develop project proposal also brought on board key stakeholders (Chiefs, Youths representatives, women representatives etc. At the implementation stage, youth that are Land owners will be key project stakeholders that will be members of the advocacy platform for climate change and environmental protection. They will be directly involved in all activities across target communities which will contribute to community ownership and long term sustainability of project actions. Youth leaders will benefit from environmental management training to ensure that they are part of the entire process which will help sustain gains of the project.
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
Knowledge generated through the implementation of this project will be effectively managed to ensure communities and other stakeholders derive maximum benefit. The community capacity building approach of the project will also ensure transfer of skills learnt. Action plans developed will have clearly defined objectives and followed up by SPACE-SL. This will provide an enabling environment for effective transfer of knowledge to the community and at the end of implementation the knowledge will stay in the communities
