Fight Deforestation to Mitigate Against Climate Change Through Food Production And Reforestation
This project will diversify and provide alternative livelihood sources for local community members currently engage in charcoal burning, a practice that has adversely damage the rain forest, exposed the natural habitat resulting to negative effects of climate change. PaCAD SL Was established with the aim of working to improve the socio-economic well being of small holder farmers in Kolifa and Tane chiefdoms through the increased production of food crops such as rice, Cassava, Fruit Potatoes and Vegetable. The proposed project will ameliorate environmental damage caused by the systematic destruction of the rain forest by supporting 200 small holders? farmers. This farmers will be provided with improve and viable seed rice, vegetable, basic farming tools and fertilizers. This project will target mainly small holder farmers comprising 30% of women drawn from local communities in kolifa Rowalla and Taneh chiefdoms in Tonkolili District. The total estimated project cost is $12,954 solicited from GEF-SGP and the community contribution will manly include land and labour to support project implementation in twelve months.

Notable Community Participation
Community has a youthful population and will be active and fully participate throughout the implementation of the project through. they were involved in the project design and validation to determine the specific project intervention and approach using participatory rural appraisal (PRA) methodologies and techniques. They shall be involved in the conduct of general community sensitization meetings to further share and explain the details of the project content and clarifying specific expectations. Setting up of community structures such as community oversight committees (CoCs), work gangs, grievance redress mechanisms etc. They shall form monitoring team for project activity implementation, regular project reviews and reflection sessions to capture project learning and effect adjustments. The project steering committee shall be involved in procurement processes includng the identification of local suppliers
Capacity - Building Component
PaCAD has a total membership of 150 registered smallholder farmers in Kolifa Rowalla and Tane Chiefdoms, an Advisory Board comprised of 5 members and Programme manager, Administrative and Finance Officer, Project Officer and Office Assistant. It has an office two motorbikes and pick van; it also has a pool of over 100 volunteers with varying professional skills in programme management and implementation. Therefore the organization has the requisite capacity to implement the project. It is affiliated with various local NGOS? COBS and Tonkolili District Council.
