This project title, Sustainable management of community forest through appropriate climate smart agricultural practices, capacity development and climate change adaptation measures will build upon previous programmes implemented by Community Aid Sierra Leone. It will also help to strengthen the way in which communities are currently deforesting their forest all in the name of seeking livelihood to support their families, damages cause due to crude agricultural practices such as slash and burning will be well handled through capacity building and the introduction of new and appropriate farming techniques using the climate smart agriculture initiative. The activities of this project will also strengthen community information flow in terms of best practices amongst members of the different groups and it will facilitate field trips to the different sites of the crops.

The rationale for implementing type of project is to provide practical solution at the community level to be able to tackle climate change through the demonstration of practices on climate smart agriculture that can be replicable into a bigger scale, initiatives of afforestation that will continue to improve the community forest cover, swamp development to increase productivity and discourage the idea of upland farming which has the tendency to increase the level of erosion as a result of heavy down pour of rain and also reduce the forest cover. This project if implemented will come up with both intended and unintended benefits to the direct beneficiaries through livelihood support and increase revenue generation and to the community through sustainable environment protection and management as a result of the introduction of climate smart agricultural practices and sustainable forest management. The project will build upon gains made as it is community owned, there will be greater community commitment in terms of local contributions and the use of other previous funding resources to strengthen its implementation.
