Projet d?appui à la protection de la faune de Mokéko
The action area of ??this project is located in the perimeter of the traditional village village of Miélékouka village, which houses within it several elephant and gorilla clearings in general and particularly the large saline of Mouadjé, of which there are some two decades allowed the observation of more than 200 elephants. Due to the pressure of poaching, all the clearings of the north sector of Odzala-Kokoua National Park (PNOK) have been abandoned by large mammals. The objective of this project is to assist the local populations and the indigenous peoples of the Miélékouka villager's territory to rather contribute in a practical way to the continuous community monitoring of the clearings adjacent to the village, in order to achieve the development of ecotourism. To achieve this, we should not only provide pecuniary subsidies to motivate them to organize themselves to supervise them, but also and above all help them to develop income-generating activities that would occupy them on a daily basis and divert them from conducting expeditions. great hunting that destroys the integrity of the large saline of Mouadjé, of global importance. The project is supported by the agropastoral development community to help protect wildlife. It was born as follows: 1) the population located on the Ouesso -Sembé road, peripheral edge of the Odzala-Kokoua National Park (PNOK), lives 90% of the poaching of the elephant for the ivory and bushmeat trafficking. 2) livestock activities are almost non-existent; 3) More than a hundred women are trafficking bushmeat from poaching; 4) 22 years ago the important claret of Mouadje, located at the extreme North East of the PNOK, in which, one could observe at the same time more than 200 elephants, is deserted now because of the strong pressure of the poaching thus of the northern peripheral zone. The problem to be solved is the absence of alternative activities, allowing the reduction of poverty and poaching. The project consists in training the local populations of the aforementioned zone in the techniques and conduct of agropastoral activities, in order to divert them from poaching. Above all, this approach will lead to the security of the Mouadjé salt works, which has enormous potential for ecotourism development that will bring the socio-economic development of the country.
