This project has identified five community landscapes: Baoma, in Luawa chiefdom in Kailahun District with typical ?land hunger? problem to benefit from this interventions. One key relevant factor to the Community Forest Landscapes is ?Land Hunger?. Land hunger, has resulted due to shortage or shortfall in the ?availability? of arable land for agricultural purposes. Therefore, there is a high probability of the existence of land hunger in these five communities where the soil is suitable either for short or long-term agriculture but reserved for community forestry. This reservation has led to a local shortage of agricultural land. These conflicting needs therefore call for more efficient land-use management for an effective and sustainable forestry and agricultural development in the face of increased population and demand for land. The other factors causing land and forest degradation within and around these five communities are artisanal mining and shifting cultivation; coupled with slash and burn agricultural practices, and settlement expansion thereby reducing the capacity of the agrarian ecosystem to provide sustainable services.

This projects aims to substantially increase the sustainable productivity of smallholder women farmers and farming families through Climate Smart Sedentary Crop Production for Livelihood Improvement of Women Farmers and Farming Families in 5 communities in Luawa Chiefdom. The project will sustain crop production; by maintaining the soil fertility of pieces of land at the immediate disposal of the communities, over a long period of time, with increased income. Without this, more of their efforts will be focused on encroaching into the community forest reserved in search of more fertile land for farming.
