Improving Livelihoods, Preserving Indigenous Cultural Practices and Forest Biodiversity.
Main Project Objective:
The main aim of the project is to contribute to the planning and management of biological diversity conservation and preservation of indigenous cultural practices and to the development of sustainable livelihoods through the systemic improvement and diversification of present forms of forest resource use in the Chibwika Chiefdom area

Specific Objectives:
1. To promote the recognition and registration of Kekoli Forest as a legally binding Community Forest
in Chibwika Chiefdom.
2. To strengthen and build capacity of local and indigenous groups to enhance delivery of diversified
livelihood support.
3. To raise awareness on the benefits of forest biodiversity and cultural preservation for Kekoli
customary forest.
4. To facilitate successful revision of the existing and current Chibwika Chiefdom Strategic Plan 2014-
2018.

Expected Results:
1. Biodiversity and carbon sinks of community conserved and protected area systems in Zambia are
better protected from threats and effectively governed by local traditional institutions and
communities using traditional sustainable forestry and land management practices.
2. Secured rights to forest resources.
3. Reduced pressures on forest resources and generate sustainable flows of forest ecosystem
services.
4. Enhance and improved community diversified livelihoods for the indigenous and local peoples.
5. Effective revised Chibwika Chiefdom development strategic plan is documented with appropriate
knowledge support for biodiversity and cultural preservation.
6. Improvement in health, food security and vitality of forest resources is accelerated and maintained
through enhanced protection and conservation.
7. Public participation and awareness is promoted in community forest management practices,
biodiversity and local cultural preservation is locally institutionalized.
8. Community governed forest is recognized and established where the rights of indigenous and local
communities protecting the forests are protected and benefit sharing systems is clear.
