Mmasebotse Portable Assembly membrane Biogas Plant Project
Problem
Botswana like other sub-Saharan countries have been experiencing energy shortages. Botswana portion of electricity have gone down placing pressure on local production. The price of connection to the national grid is at a flat rate charge of P5, 000, this amount is still too high for those living in rural impoverished areas where energy is needed to sufficiently and efficiently improve their standard of living.
b. Solution
Biogas ?With a cattle population of 2,220,000 in 2008 (statistics Botswana, 2012), the volume of cow dung may be enough to run a number of stand-alone power plants in hybrid arrangement farms.
This is an area requiring further investigation preferably by the Botswana Technology Centre. Other avenues for generation of biogas are abattoirs and sewage treatment plants. Methane capture also presents opportunities not only for reducing GHG?s but also addressing the country energy needs. Methane capture has been considered by a number of private sector entities but met with challenges of ownership and lack of a concessions policy for landfills. The absence of waste separation at source also limits the profitability of methane capture especially with the relatively low volumes of food-waste generated. With the installation of biogas digesters for home cooking, it will reduce the costs of Liquid Petroleum Gas since it is imported. Installation of biogas digesters will also cater for rural villages as most of LPG supplies are in urban areas. It will be easy for people in rural areas as most the cattle are in rural areas and source of energy being that of fire wood; nonetheless it will be easy for them to feed their own digesters. In urban areas people will be able to feed the biogas digesters from their own leftovers without throwing the garbage for landfill.?
1.3.1 The primary project objective is to make use of renewable energy efficient innovative products to increase Mmasebotse production and reduce global warming by making use of GHG?s as an alternative energy.
? Installation of biogas digesters stand-alone mini power plant on poultry farms to increase energy efficiency.
? Cleaning a disposed digester provides liquid compost that is good for crop production
? Building greenhouse gardens around poultry farms as part of backyard gardening to improve green farming and food supplementary (vegetables).
1.3.2 The expected results of the projects are;
? To increase the Mmasebotse products ( expansion )
? New business of packaging and selling manure
? Greenhouse gardens or backyard gardening is supplementary plan for Mmasebotse to promote green living, selling of vegetables and poverty eradication / hunger alleviation.
1.4 Description of the Project Activities
The Mmasebotse (Stand Alone Biogas Mini Plant) Project entails installing biogas digesters to Mmasebotse farms to curb carbon and methane emissions. The system is designed for livestock and treat manure
? Main Advantages / Features
1. Low cost: compared to the present large biogas digesters the construction cost is much lower, and no raw material, collection pipeline system or transportation system is required.
2. Low operational cost : The system saves the cost of raw materials collection and transportation
3. Easy and quick to install, the main equipment are preassembled in container before shipment.
4. High efficient: The system has the functions for fast anaerobic reaction such as 35-45 degree Celsius high and constant reading temperatures keeping, and automatic mixing.
5. Environmentally friendly : The gas collected that is produced is odorless, cleaned and burned; the residue to full fermentation has no smell; no greenhouse gas ( biogas ) discharged all the biogas is collected cleaned and burned as fuel; no waste discharge, the residue can be used for green or organic vegetable cultivation directly.
The biogas digesters DIY (Do It Yourself) will be installed by Mogomotsi Mangure and Joseph Sekgatsa upon receiving fund to purchase. The two are familiar with the biogas digesters and they have conducted thorough research on the product.Mr Mogomotsi Mangure have over the years built a close strategic relation with the manufacturer due to their products admiration. Residue manure from the disposed digester to be packed for crop production, the new line of business will require collection, packaging and storage. Collection of manure from Mmasebotse farms to Sefophe farm where a storage and a greenhouse will be installed.Mr John Tlhakole will use his truck to collect from farms and send the manure to Sefophe farm for packaging, the collection will be done every Sunday and stored. Packaging of the manure product will be handled by Tsholofelo Sebego, Tillar Motlhagodi, and Cecilia Dichaba.A steel maid greenhouse to be installed immediately by John Tlhakole, Mokgobokanyi Moswetsi, and Kebabonye Morapedi with the biogas digester upon arrival on purchase. The greenhouse garden will be in the care of, Gothatamang Modzingwa, Veronica Goitseone Mahlunge, Leungo Mweene, Kgalalelo Mmatli they will be responsible with organic crop/vegetable farming day to day activities including, cleaning, storage and selling to the community. The Mmasebotse (mini biogas plant) Project entails to empower unemployed women, man and youth of the SPEDU region through introducing innovative smart energy efficient biogas digesters to shift from traditional dependent on fossil fuels and biomass reliance. The project brings awareness and change to the community on products that are supposed to be used at the care of the environment.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms
? The knowledge management strategy of this project is to educate the farmers and the public at large about modern day green trends. Installation of this Puxin 3.4 M3 Family Size Portable Assembly Membrane will reduce environmental pollution and deforestation in rural which is curbed by fuel wood used for cooking and heating.
? The use of biogas to produce Green House Gases will reduce rise to global climate change. Biogas will cut down imports of electricity for our country to supplement its current electricity supply. Botswana Power Corporation imports power from South African power utility ESCOM, distribution network of about 40 villages.
Introducing this innovative Puxin 3.4M3 Family Size Portable Assembly Membrane Biogas Plant will teach the community that biogas is an alternative or shift energy that can be used for cooking, heating and electricity. Feeding biogas digesters from their kraals/ most people in rural areas do not have a clue cow dung, chicken manure, pig manure, vegetable left overs.
