Experts of the department have good mastery of the subject matter (holding consultative meetings with communities and other stakeholders, training, rapid biodiversity assessments, nursery management, maintenance and monitor. Experts are experience in carrying out assignments of this magnitude The University is a state entity with adequate space for demonstration, training, writing and reporting

Knowledge management will follow these objectives: 1. Hold consultative meetings with surrounding communities: Heddle farm and Tree planting to agree with all the boundaries and have a mutual understanding. 2. Implement a rapid biodiversity survey of the reserve, map species and all hydrological points (springs, watercourses, and threatened species) 3. Establish a nursery for immediate vegetation restoration, especially on water catchment. 4. Establish a living herbarium of backyard and wild species of fruits, which are currently disappearing in our environment. 5. Develop and institute a proper system of data management for existing herbarium, the living herbarium and species to be planted as a basis for effective monitoring.

Since the university is a centre of learning, we will make sure that the project have a strong policy on gender equality both from the university and communities. Men and women with disability will be hired in filing soils in close to 30,000 polybags in the nursery. Women who currently use some areas in the reserve for gardening with the enhanced through training and apportionment of specific productive areas along the flooded depressions. Children, particularly young school-going girls will particularly benefit from the medium to long-term sustainable supply of water to these communities. At the moment, school children are suffering from the reduced flow of water during the dry season. Scores of children are seen on a daily basis during the months November to April, some of which face unimaginable harassment including sexual demands just to get a bucket of water

The University land is mostly threatened by inhabitants of Tree planting, Heddle Farm, Leicester village and Gloucester. Since the consultative meetings with communities will entail collaborative and participatory development of strategies to ensure sustainable management of resources, we will ask communities of their alternative needs. But we intend to nursed fast growing trees species like Acacia, Malena, Terminalia and supply at least ten individual trees to each household in the community for charcoal production. We also intend in the future to train communities on integrated sustainable agriculture with small community poultries and piggeries. This will empower the community, boost their income as most members will be able to take care of education and healthcare of their families

The target beneficiary will be students of the department of biological sciences, communities and the cross section of the public. At the start of the project, relevant community members will be invited for a meeting with authorities of the University, Head of Department of Biological sciences, lecturers, technical staff and students. This will be the major stakeholders where project designs, planning and ideas will be discussed. This will strengthen stakeholders to move on project objectives.

This project is intended to increase water supply in the city of Freetown, safeguard the watershed and springs, increase biodiversity of the reserve, training young professionals and students and collaborate with surrounding communities. The government in the future may understand the value of this and create policies geared toward the green belt strategy that was rectified by the government a few years ago. Collaborative strategies between communities surrounding state properties can be laid down as a policy and will be backed by data from this project. Water, sanitation and biodiversity policy can be drawn from this project and included in the country National Biodiversity Strategy Action Plan (NBSAP).
