Lutte contre le rétrécissement des espaces protégées
Lutte contre le rétrécissement des espaces protégées
This project provides support to the village land of Lengui-Lengui, the main access to the Lossi Gorilla Sanctuary (SGL), located in the southern outskirts of Odzala-Kokoua National Park (PNOK). Local communities are Bantu. The following activities are carried out: * Provide support to the continuous community surveillance of the clearing of the village land Lengui -Lengui and its connecting corridor with the Odzala-Kokoua National Park (PNOK) in the Mbomo district; * Promote the sedentarization of shifting slash-and-burn agriculture, in areas at potential risk of obstructing elephant migration corridors; * Promote pig production and sharecropping. The expected results are: the Securing of biotopes with as indicator the Probability of observation of Large Mammals in clearings and corridors connecting them; Food security by reducing the hunting effort due to the bushmeat trade; Increase in agricultural yields and pig farming, providing an alternative source of income. About twenty households are mobilized with a variation in women and young people. The proximity of the Base infrastructures of the Odzala Kokoua National Park is a real asset for the development of community ecotourism.

Project Characteristics and Results
Policy Influence
Notable Community Participation
Before the project, young people lived mainly from poaching. As part of the Project, new opportunities have been offered in the development of sectors of income-generating activities compatible with the conservation of biodiversity.
