The village and ICCA land of Makao -Liganga, beneficiary of the Project, is located in the south-eastern outskirts of the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park (PNNN), on the banks of the Motaba river tributary of the Oubangui river, itself a tributary of the River Congo. Said intervention zone adjacent to a large flooded forest. The local population is made up of more than half of the indigenous peoples. It contains a network of elephant tracks connecting the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park and the Lac-Telé Community Reserve. The communities live becoup of gathering and hunting. The activities revolve around: * Reincent the actors of elephant poaching and bushmeat trafficking in the village and ICCAs of Makao-Linganga and convert them into the valuation of value-added non-wood forest products * Ensure the identification and training of the major players in elephant poaching and bushmeat trafficking in the breeding and marketing of pig meat through sharecropping and the development of the pig sector from the village land of Makao; * Set up a pig production and sharecropping unit; More than twenty (20) households of Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples (CLPA) are mobilized in the development of the aforementioned activities. The Project aims to secure the favorite biotopes of large mammals (clearings and corridors) through the social reconversion of former poachers; Reduce the hunting effort, with a view to securing game harvesting areas threatened by the bushmeat trade; Producing and maturing pig meat in order to provide an alternative source of income to the bushmeat trade, then increase the yields of food crops.

Au Congo, le développement rural à travers l'action coopérative a donné un résultat mitigé eu égard à son accaparation par les leaders aux détriment des autres membres. L'approche de mise en ?uvre des micro-projets SGP a permis par l'entremise des engagements de toutes les parties prenantes à établir dans la mise en ?uvre, une meilleure répartition des intrants, une parfaite appropriation et un bon partage des bénéfices du Projet par tous les membres bénéficiaires de la subvention. Aussi cette méthode a permis sur le plan pratique de faire réduire à la fois la pauvreté et la pression sur la biodiversité.
Notable Community Participation
Before the project, young people lived mainly from poaching. As part of the Project, new opportunities have been offered in the development of sectors of income-generating activities compatible with the conservation of biodiversity.
