Building Affordable School Structures Using Plastic Bricks made from Plastic Waste to Promote Zero Plastic Waste in Sierra Leone

This project shall produce bricks from plastics which can be used to build affordable government and government assisted schools. They can also be used to build additional classes for schools that need more classes to accommodate higher enrollment. It is believed that the intervention will lead to increased awareness about environmental issues and will improve the livelihoods of the beneficiaries. When addressed and communities learn the importance together with pupils, it will encourage the young and old to advocate against littering. The project objectives are:
1. To sensitize stakeholders on the importance of circular economy and zero plastic waste
2. To form groups among communities in surrounding schools and train them in plastic waste recycling practices.
And the expected results of this project are:
1. School structures built using plastic bricks that are made from plastic waste
2. Communities sensitized together with stakeholders on relevance of zero plastic waste
3. Increased number of people involve in plastic recycling practices (collection of plastic waste and recycling it)
4. Young generation become Zero Waste Ambassadors.
5. Zero plastic waste in out gutters, drainages and waters
6. Job opportunities created

The targeted community for this project is the largest community in Makeni City called Rogbaneh

A way we can sustain our project activities we work in partnership with other groups. This could be in the area of cross referrals, project development and/or sharing of resources. Strong partnerships can bring on board diverse strengths, skills and experience to better serve communities and sustain gains made thus enhancing the livelihoods of project beneficiaries. Together, partners can establish actions to keep projects benefiting communities for longer periods of time. .

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

Accumulating, storing and effectively sharing knowledge allows to create a culture that can significantly improve efficiency and employee happiness. But ineffective knowledge management impacts the financial front and employee satisfaction levels. It is therefore important to manage the knowledge of all projects implemented by an organization. Through the key components of knowledge management which are people, processes and technology, we plan to capture everything about this project. The People will lead, sponsor and support knowledge sharing. Defined Processes are needed to manage and measure knowledge flows and Technology connects the right people to the right content at the right time. Gender Focus

Involving key stakeholders including women leaders and youth leaders is useful ensuring community participation in our business activities to promote the sustainability of our project. Building projects together in this way can win the hearts and minds of users and build community support. Both women and men in the communities will embrace business activities because they are part of the development and implementation. Communities will take ownership, feel valued and endeavour to do things that can help the project to continue into the futur

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The project team will use mainstream media to communicate the successes and innovations. One new innovative aspect of this project will be the creation of community plastic waste collection points to encourage communities to participate actively in the collection of the plastic waste.

Notable Community Participation

This proposed project promotes sustainable development. People's participation is now thought by many to be a prerequisite for sustainable development. Stakeholders and communities including indigenous people were consulted during the proposal development phase and they will therefore be involved in all phases of project project implementation and project monitoring and evaluation. This project is owned by the communities and they need to provide key resources like places to locate collection points and labour necessary to secure success. This is the reason why they were involved in the planning and design of this project to ensure that all these resources are made available. As the project is practically oriented, the people are bound to be part of the implementation process. Besides, we will form steering committees that will collaborate with the monitoring team to see that the people give their best to make the project succeed. The youth have negative attitude towards proper waste management practices but eWomen Sierra Leone through sensitization has formed youth headed groups around learning clusters and this means the project will equally benefit the

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

Women are involved in cleaning both public areas and homes than men, this means that the intervention will benefit women as well as men. the best plastic waste collectors are woman. And the best plastic paver maker is also a woman. eWomen Sierra Leone already has experience working with persons with disability in waste management. Persons with disability will therefore be encouraged to participate in this project. youth

Policy Impact

eWomen will constantly and consistently evaluate our projects. Through this, we will be able to identify projects that the community needs. Evaluation results will show which activities are achieving results and those that need to be dropped. This means only valued project activities will be carried forward. We will always endeavour to present positive evaluation data to influence local policy changes. This can help us generate more support and income for our project activities to enhance sustainability and policy dynamics.
