Building Back Better Women in Lokomassama and Kaffu Bullom Chiefdoms, Port Loko District
The project is titled ?Building Back Better Women in Lokomassama and Kaffu Bullom Chiefdoms, Port Loko District ?. The objective is to plant fast growing trees as wood lots which in future, provides fuel wood for drying fish as an alternative to mangrove wood that is widely harvested presently. Knowing that it will take 3 to 4 years for the trees to be matured enough for harvesting, the project proposes agricultural livelihood support to 40 women as an income generating activity that has the potential to improve their wellbeing. Vegetable farming (onion, pepper, carrot etc) is proposed because it has huge potential in the target community. Additionally, since women are the main target beneficiaries, the project shall mainstream Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) education including HIV and AIDS, and public health pandemics such as COVID-19.
In summary, this intervention will maintain a stream of flow of cash in the pockets of women but more importantly, it will shape up the wetland ecosystems and the surrounding upland that is presently under threat.
