Capacity building of women farmers for resilience to climate change.
The project overall object is to improve the livelihoods of 1200 beneficiaries, 90% female through adoption of climate smart agriculture, mitigating climate change effect through growing of orange, sweet potatoes and reduction of deforestation in 10 communities of Barri Chiefdom. The specific objectives are; to establish women?s networks for improved livelihoods through promotion and adoption of climate smart agriculture practices, to establish 10 nature clubs in 10 schools in Barri chiefdom; to promote climate change mitigation practices and to share lessons learnt with stakeholders and other chiefdoms in the districts for possible replication; and to increase key stakeholder?s knowledge on appropriate land management to avoid disaster and conflict. The key expected results are; (1) Livelihoods of parents and nutrition status of children improved across 10 communities in Barri chiefdom. (2) Community members practiced positive climate change mitigation practices in 10 communities in Barri chiefdom and lessons learnt document developed and disseminated to stakeholders to utilize in district and (3) Increased advocacy for key stakeholders? collaboration with environmental experts for a developed and functional hazard mitigation action plan for the chiefdom. The 10 communities revolve around Potoru (chiefdom headquarter town), Busu, Golala, Sahun, Baoma, Largo, Magbwema, Konia, Kundowahun and Masapka. At least 1 secondary school in each community, total 10 will be selected to set up and roll out the ?nature club? activities.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
A vulnerability participatory assessment will be undertaken of women, men and persons with disabilities in accessing resources and opportunities for their wellbeing. A mix of FGDs and KIIs will be undertaken with women, men, persons with disabilities and other key stakeholders to identify the needs, gaps and challenges faced, the findings will help inform the the capacity need. The project will designed capacity building based on the facts gatherered.
Gender Focus
The organization puts women at the heart of what they do. They seek active participation and empowerment of communities and project beneficiaries, increasing accountability of duty bearers but also of their project staff. The general approach is captured by their vision: "We empower women to lead in the protection and management of the environment". The project will ensure the issue of unbalance in community is managed at data collection and management level by ensuring that the database of beneficiaries clearly analyze the caseload of beneficiaries per community. This will inform budget and resource allocation evenly resulting to no one community benefited more than the others.
