Desalination of Water for Fauna in Nata Sanctuary
Nata Conservation Trust (NCT) manages a very important wetland in Makgadikgadi wetland system. This area is famous globally as it is a breeding ground for threatened flamingo species. Apart from such, the sanctuary is home to over three hundred (300) bird species. Department of wildlife conservation has also introduced other animal species such as zebras, wild beasts, ostriches, jackals, to be conserved in the area. The wetland is seasonal and sometimes dries up completely leaving animals? species within the sanctuary with no water. To mitigate on such adverse occurrences, NCT drilled a borehole and created water points, unfortunately the borehole water is very salty (refer to attached micro biology water tests, chemistry reports to be sent as soon as we get them). NCT plan is therefore to desalinate the salty water and make it available for animals and birds during drought seasons. For this project to be successful, NCT will need a solar water pump, water desalination system and a long horse pipe to supply water to already developed water points within the sanctuary.
