Enhancing Inclusive Rural Community Adaptation and Mitigation to Climate Change
Enhancing Inclusive Rural Community Adaptation and Mitigation to Climate Change
This project aim to provide an inclusive livelihood option and knowledge on best practices to develop adaptation and mitigation measures to achieve sustainable development. The Project will contribute to the reduction of risk disaster and negative impacts of climate change associated with the Lower Zambezi Landscape Site?AER III. The Project will also include an intensive Climate Change Advocacy to stimulate local policy redirection towards climate smart competence and Community Based Natural Resources Management (CBNRM). We proposes to scale up a community led Mixed Apiculture model aimed at building the adaptive capacity of vulnerable communities as well as mitigate Climate Change through a robust twin track approach (beekeeping and tree planting). We will set up two Inclusive mixed Apiculture Model centres in Zimba (Mukwalantila Village) and Kazungula District (Kalenga Village). The project will promote a replicable mixed Api and Horticulture prototype to be led by the vulnerable and marginalized groups in each of the two District sites. The Api and Horticulture sites will host an Apiary and supporting Horticulture/orchard with an assortment of edible fruit and flowering trees with edible and salable products. We will facilitate the establishment of the Mixed Apiculture model and market linkages for the products (Honey, Moringa Tea, hibiscus flowers etc) .The project are expected to deliver a high social impact beyond the direct beneficiary?s outcomes- increased pollination and forest conservation. We will incorporate a number of tree based products that will increase household income and reduce vulnerability through natural based solutions. The project is expected to deliver the following key results: increased adaptation capacity through household income security, strategic food security, multiple complementary off season income streams and support to forest biodiversity. Reduction in tree cutting increased knowledge and conservation.
The Project will ultimately contribute to global climate change responses by reducing the deforestation rate through sustainable livelihood development for the host communities.
