Micro-agric empowerment for the under privileged
Please provide a brief summary of the project in one paragraph, including rationale and context, project objective and key expected results, include the target site and community (ies) involved.
This project will include food (cassava) production, processing, preservation, and marketing through training of direct beneficiaries and voluntary stake holder?s participation.
The rationale behind this project derives from two statistics:
I.That 15-20% of food produced in sub Sahara Africa end up wasted because of the lack of good management skills and preservation technique (FAO 2015 survey). To this Sierra Leone is not excluded. As a way of contributing the this global effort to fighting hunger, individuals and communities need trainings to not only produce, but be knowledgeable in processing and preservation, something which this project will address.
II.In Sierra Leone, Persons with Disabilities are branded as the poorest of the poor, simply because 17 % of disable women had any form of education. Only 3% of these women are marry to able men? this include women who were already married before they got their disability(s). About 85% of these women who have children are single parents. Integrating then in this groups of non disable but under privilege will not only take them from the street from begging but will as well maximize their community usefulness , self esteem, and economic independence. (Source 2015 housing and population census & Random sample survey conducted in the East, South and Western rural in 2010 by MSL which was Co-finance by Rotary club of Clifton and Handicap International (France).
