Integrating Women Businesses in Dukwi, Nata, Mosetse and Manxotae into the Green Economy
Integrating Women Businesses in Dukwi, Nata, Mosetse and Manxotae into the Green Economy
The Botswana Climate Change Network (BCCN) intends to implement a project that solves a chain of inter-related energy and climate induced development and access challenges in the Country. It will support women?s participation in green growth enterprising targeted at decentralized renewable energy products and services in support of the Country?s NDCs and transitioning to a low carbon and climate resilient economy. The project will support, at the grassroots level, disadvantaged women who still largely depend on fuelwood for cooking and lighting and have no means to economically improve their lives to access green skills by supporting emerging and new women entrepreneurs green their businesses. Project activities will take place in the Makgadikgadi Wetland System. Botswana still lags behind in the uptake of renewable energy, particularly mini grid energy options, when compared to other Countries. Renewable energy production in the Country is mostly centralized, feeds into the grid and still leaves a huge gap in efforts of attaining access to energy for all.
The Project will target a total of 20 Women from the Villages of Mosetse, Nata, Dukwi and Manxotai who will be supported with solar products such as dryers, solar milling machines, solar lamps, and solar irrigation systems. These villages are located in the Central District within the Makgadikgadi Wetlands System. According to the Central Statistics Office (2022), the Village of Nata, Mosetse, Dukwi and Manxotai had a population of 7713,2064,4075 and 725 respectively. The concept of green growth is quite less familiar to most of the member states small and medium sized entrepreneurs and enterprises.
