Application of Water Efficiency in Mitigating Climate Change Effects
Application of Water Efficiency in Mitigating Climate Change Effects
The Botswana Climate Change Policy does note that the country?s physical water scarcity is already a constraint to economic development and growth which thus calls for much more emphasis on water demand management, including efficient water allocation and use, re-use of wastewater, rainwater harvesting and desalination. The water scarcity is highly attributable to the fact that rainfall is already highly variable, spatially, inter- and intra-annual.

This proposal therefore feeds into the country?s desire to develop capacity to lessen the extent of vulnerability of the country?s economy from climate variability and change. This project proposal seeks to respond to the UNDP GEF/SGP call for proposals by addressing the Climate Change thematic area with focus on the project category on Capacity Development Project and the GEF OP7 Strategic initiative: - Low Carbon Energy Access Co-benefits.

In light of the above we intend to adopt pragmatic water efficiency practices in our area of jurisdiction by focusing on the following:
1. Rain water harvesting: - we have the four tented camp units, school classrooms, VDC and Trust houses that has the potential to capture substantial rainwater.
2. Water Efficient Technology: we intend to use water conservation technologies in our campsite especially in ablution blocks and the kitchen.
3. Re-use of grey water: we intend to capture grey water from the ablution blocks and the kitchen for landscaping purposes. The water will be separated from the source for ease management. It is worth mentioning here that there is no proper sewerage system in the area
4. Use of solar energy: This will be used for water reticulation and energy purpose.
The fact remains undisputed that Tsodilo Hills World Heritage Site is a renouned site for which delopmental interventions should as much as possible be environmental sustainable.
