Support for the establishment of an education centre.
Mokolodi Nature Reserve (MNR) was established on freehold farms in the outskirts of Gaborone, to contribute to the conservation of endangered species (primarily rhino) in Botswana, and promote environmental education for primary schools in Gaborone and its environs.

The reserve started operations at a time when Botswana was beginning to encorporate environmental conservation in both planning and education. It was also around the time that efforts were made to reintroduce rhinos in Botswana. Mokolodi has become the leading environmental education centre in Botswana and also has regional recognition.

GEF/SGP has been approached to contribute to the construction of an education centre in Mokolodi. This centre will run courses from one day to several days long, depending on the needs of the guests. Courses will be offered for all age groups with the focus on natural resource conservation and addressing environmental problems. Mokolodi adopts a holistic view to the environment, incorporating economical, social, political and ecological life support systems. The centre will also run courses for community based organisations, professional guides and teachers.
