Monitoring the status of wattled cranes in the okavango delta.
The Wattled Crane is a globally threatened bird distributed across 11 range countries. The principle threat facing the species is the loss, transformation, and degradation of wetland habitat.This proposal requests funds for Capacity development and training of BirdLife Botswana Crane Working Group members for; Monitoring the numbers and distribution of the Wattled Crane in the Okavango Delta; Monitoring the breeding success of the Wattled Crane in the Okavango Delta; Exploring and implement effective means to ensure community participation in conserving and monitoring the Wattled Crane; and Networking with and disseminate information to existing organizations and conservation programmes in the Okavango Delta.

Further on-going public awareness is needed; in particular, the importance of wattled cranes needs to be communicated to decision makers.
Project sustainability
The extension of the original project enabled the crane working group to consolidate and in some instances finalise the work initiated under the original project. A sound basis has been established for continued monitoring and conservation action.
