Caura Valley Community Based Integrated Management Initiative
The current pest and crop production and management methods are clearly a threat to the forest ecosystem surrounding the Caura valley as well as the agricultural biodiversity. The production of single variety of various agricultural crops has been and continues to be a threat to the natural local biodiversity. These varieties require high levels of inputs, particularly toxic pesticides in order to produce. They also negatively affect the natural enemies and beneficial insects. The current programme will strive to identify and promote the use of varieties that require less inputs and also to propagate and reintroduce beneficial insects. Methods for promoting the action of the natural enemies will also be explored.
