Bush Encroachment Management Through Bush Clearing in a Community Managed Sanctuary and Re-introduction of Palatable Species
The purpose of the project is to involve the participation of members of the communities of Metsimaswaana and Mankgodi in range management and sustainable utilization of firewood resources from undesirable species, the re-introduction of desirable indigenous plant species on Mokolodi Nature Reserve. The main activities in the project include controlled bush clearing, selling firewood (the by-product of bush clearing), planting of trees as well as production of education materials for students and the community at large.

Policy Influence
The Majakathata project is likely to complement the goverment`s policy on Community Based Natural Resource Management.
Planning non gef grant
The project will link with the Community Conservation Fund under the Department of Wildlife and National Parks. Fund from this department will go towards educating students about the dangers of envinmental degradation as most feel environmental education and awareness is not adequately addressed through the national public education system.
