'Toco Talk' and Community Radio (TRI/92/G51/2101/009)
Support for a community newspaper 'Toco Talk' and community radio with focus on environment and community development.
The "Toco Talk" project will be implemented by the Toco Foundation. An editorial committee, comprising members of the Toco Foundation (TF), will be responsible for the content and production of the paper. The community groups affiliated with the TF will be responsible for soliciting contributions from their communities to the paper as well as its distribution within their communities. It is targeted as a monthly publication with 1,500 copies per issue in the first year of publication. The paper will be the much needed environmental voice on the coast as well as within our Republic. It will include feature articles, news, updates and will report on the work of individuals, agencies and CBOs and NGOs.
The Community Radio aspect is the first phase of a national project of another NGO, the Trinidad and Tobago Citizens Agenda Network (T&TCAN). The TF will identify technical expertise within the community to implement and coordinate the project in Toco for the first year of operations. Grant funds will be used to support the coordinator of both the community newspaper and community radio initiatives.
